FEDERAL HIGH COURT OF NIGERIA STRIKES OUT CASE FILED BY THE CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA AGAINST MS JENNIFER OWIE

Order all Nigerian banks to unfreeze the bank accounts of the defendants.

PRESS RELEASE

LAGOS, NIGERIA, 21st July 2022: The Federal High Court of Nigeria, sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on the 8th July 2022 delivered an Order of Court, striking out the case with Suit No,: FHC/L/CS/376/2022: GOVERNOR, CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA V. BALAJABO ABDULRAHMAN & 74 ORS. filed by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) against one Mr. Balajabo Abdulrahman, and Seventy-four other persons which include our client, Ms Jennifer Owie (named as the 67th Defendant) and discharged an earlier order of the court to freeze our client’s bank accounts.

The same court had on the 16th of March 2022 issued an order to freeze the bank accounts of the Defendants/Respondents pending the conclusion and report of Investigation by the Plaintiff. Our firm – Yellow Silk Attorneys vehemently protested the suit and provided convincing and unassailable evidence to establish the innocence of Ms Owie.

Plaintiff moved the Court through an application to discontinue the matter after investigations revealed that our client did not violate any law whatsoever for which the CBN brought the case against her. The enrolled order of the court signed by the Honourable Justice Y. Bogoro and validated by the Registrar of the Court, Eunice N. Nkwocha reads: “…that this suit is hereby discontinued against the Defendants/Respondents, and that an Order is made discharging the freezing Order made on the 16th day of March 2022.”

In her reaction, our happy client, Ms Owie said, “I am so happy, [I] could not have done it without you. You are amazing Churchill.”

The Founder and Managing Partner of Yellow Silk Attorneys, Churchill Kalu Esq. commenting on the impact of the lawsuit on the client insisted that “despite the hardship that the client faced due to her inability to access the funds in her bank accounts – which were frozen by the court on the urge of the Central Bank of Nigeria; I am happy that justice is upheld at last. I appreciate the understanding of the Plaintiff and of course – the Honourable Court for agreeing with us and with the compelling reasons we established on why an innocent citizen should not suffer unduly without fault or justification.
